Indian Association for Hydrogen Energy and Advanced Materials (IAHEAM)
Fossil fuels (i.e., petroleum, natural gas and coal), which meet most of the world’s energy demand today, are being depleted fast. Also, their combustion products are causing the global problems, such as the global warming, climate change, ozone layer depletion, acid rains, oxygen depletion and pollution, which are posing great danger for our environment and eventually for the life in our planet. Many engineers and scientists agree that the solution to these global problems would be replacing the existing fossil fuel system by the Hydrogen Energy System. Hydrogen is a very efficient and clean fuel. Its combustion will produce no greenhouse gases, no ozone layer depleting chemicals, little or no acid rain ingredients, no oxygen depletion and pollution.
Around the world, there is extensive r&d work on Hydrogen Energy. Internal combustion engines are being modified for hydrogen fuel. Many types of fuel cells - to convert hydrogen efficiently to electricity - are being developed and tested. Vehicle manufacturers have built several experimental cars and buses. Many are being tested on the roads. Hydrogen fuelled appliances based on catalytic combustion have been built. There is research and development work on hydrogen hydride refrigeration and air conditioning systems. There are submarines and sea going vessels running on hydrogen. Experimental airplanes flying on hydrogen are being researched.
It is important to bring the scientists, engineers and researchers in hydrogen energy and advanced materials fields together, so that they can exchange their research results and build upon them, and eventually help convert their country to Hydrogen Economy. This is what the Indian Association for Hydrogen Energy and Advanced Materials (IAHEAM) has done and continuous to do efficiently. We have no doubt that IAHEAM will play an important role in conversion of India to clean and abundant energy system, Hydrogen Energy System.
We wish IAHEAM a long and successful life in its noble and worthwhile mission.
